Individual Therapy

During individual counseling sessions, I strive to offer a safe, caring and confidential space to explore feelings, beliefs and behaviors. I pay particular attention to your thoughts and feelings, discuss past experiences and/or problem solve current situations. You and I will identify what things you would like to change, improve your understanding of yourself and others, set personal goals and work toward bettering or accepting your life. If desired, family members or significant others can be invited to some sessions, but the focus is always about empowering and supporting you.

Teen Therapy

Counseling sessions with teens are focused on improving coping strategies, communication skills and interpersonal relationships. We will also learn to regulate emotions and impulses.

Working with minors means that coordination with an adult parent or caregiver is needed. This involvement differs depending on the client, their age and other factors, but typically treatment can involve individual, collateral and family sessions. I am also available to consult with school teachers, psychologists, doctors and psychiatrists. I have extensive experience working with young people to help them develop successful identities, reduce stress and find more successful ways to get their needs met.
I have experience helping others deal with trauma, grief, depression, and anxiety. I also have worked extensively with teens and their families, so I know the problems that are unique to teens.

Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a remarkably effective therapy approach used to overcome the emotionally painful effects of trauma and a wide range of other emotional conditions. It has been shown to be twice as effective in HALF the amount of time of standard traditional psychotherapy treatments alone. EMDR is a combination of traditional talk therapy and bilateral stimulation following an eight-phase model.
EMDR is known to be effective with survivors of trauma, however, it can be used for many other challenges you may be struggling with. Personally, I have personal therapy experience with an EMDR therapist, which resulted in an effective and long lasting end result. Excited by that experience, I went on to become EMDR trained in order to help my clients overcome disturbing and upsetting events in their lives. Many have experienced relief from symptoms and have noticed dramatic improvements in the quality of their lives. As mentioned, EMDR has been used successfully to help people overcome other challenges as well.
